Medford Open Streets
Open Streets is an international program that temporarily repurposes streets for walking, bicycling, dancing, playing, and socializing. With more than 130 documented initiatives in North America, open streets are increasingly common in cities seeking innovative ways to achieve environmental, social, economic, and public health goals.
Our Vision
People traffic replaces car traffic as streets become ‘paved parks’ where people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds can exercise and make new social connections.
Medford Open Streets is not a block party or street fair, but a program to encourage active transportation, social connections, and re-imagine a version of the city where more space is given to people than cars.
As we invest in regular Open Streets programming and engage community members, active transportation will become a more common and comfortable way to commute.
Our Goals
Improve the health of Medford residents;
Increase awareness of sustainable active transportation options;
Highlight and create opportunities to keep local dollars local by supporting independent Medford businesses;
Increase livability and vibrancy.
